Welcome to kurkinengroup.com, an experimental work in progress by KURKINEN GROUP. We do research on Alzheimer dementia, the most common neurodegenerative disease of the human mind. Nothing compares to Alzheimer dementia. Alois Alzheimer called it “eine eigenartige Erkrankung der Hirnrinde” (a peculiar disease of the cortex).
We can think, therefore live in the past, today or even tomorrow, if we want to. We can walk and talk, hear and see and smell, feel happy and sad, and have a conscious awareness of all that because of synapses (interfaces between neurons) and what they do in neurotransmission.
Vive la Difference. We hope kurkinengroup.com is an interface accessible to everyone interested in dementia (out of mind in Latin), science and society. We think, therefore we are not robots. We are all the same, yet different, because of you and what you do, and we are interested in what you do.
At you can post your comments, concerns, ideas, stories, or whatever you have in mind, anything goes. Checkout to see the posts.
The road to treatment and prevention of Alzheimer dementia has been long and winding of 40 years of research and clinical studies, cul-de-sac with no end in sight. Tomorrow is a new day.
